President’s Welcome

It is my great pleasure to invite you to our Annual Scientific Congress in Perth from 28 October to 1 November 2017.

It’s an exciting time for ophthalmology as we continue to grow and adapt to a changing and often challenging medical landscape. We work in an environment where emerging medical diagnostic technologies and new therapies come up against economic constraints that impact on how we deliver eye health care services.

Our 49th Annual Scientific Congress presents an invaluable opportunity for ophthalmologists from Australia, New Zealand and around the world to come together to discuss important ophthalmology issues, learn about the latest advancements in eye health care and share new ideas and innovations.

Focused on delivering excellence in patient care and improving patient outcomes, Congress organisers have developed a robust scientific program to stimulate our learning and challenge our thinking on a range of scientific topics and developments, including glaucoma, retina, cataract, oculoplastic and paediatrics. Taking place in Perth, a modern city undergoing rapid expansion with many exciting new venues, this year’s Congress is sure to delight with many opportunities for professional development and networking.

It is my hope that you all will leave this year’s Congress revitalised, with good memories and renewed inspiration for contributing to improvements in eye care for patients everywhere.

A/Prof Mark Daniell
President, RANZCO
