Presentation Formats

The following presentation formats will be available at the RANZCO 2017 Congress.

Please note authors may indicate whether they prefer “PAPER ONLY”, “POSTER ONLY”, “AUDIT ONLY“, “PAPER, POSTER OR AUDIT“ and “FILM”.

For example, if you select PAPER your abstract will not be considered for POSTER and vice versa. If you wish to be considered for PAPER but are happy to be offered a Poster or Audit if not selected, then please choose “PAPER, POSTER OR AUDIT”. Please read the descriptions below before submitting your abstract.

“Rapid Fire” Presentations
Rapid Fire presentations are just that! If your paper is selected for this type of presentation, you will have exactly five (5) minutes to present your paper followed by two (2) minutes for discussion. There will be two podia in the room so that there is no time wasted in changing over from one speaker to the next.

CPD Audit Presentations
Fellows and trainees are invited to present clinical audits that would be of interest to others. Each presentation will be exactly five (5) minutes for the presentation and (5) minutes for questions. (10) minutes in total. Submissions and slides will be structured with Background, Benchmarking/Standard, Results and Recommendations.

An Audit Prize will be presented for the best audit.

Poster Presentations
Posters provide a static visual display of new techniques, programs, research or professional innovations. They are the ideal medium for the presentation of complex visual material and emerging practice content. Further information on the format of the posters will be advised closer to the congress.

The Allergan Ophthalmic Film Festival

The 49th Annual Congress of RANZCO will again host the Allergan Ophthalmic Film Festival which will run continuously during the congress. Each film should be succinct – a maximum of 5 minutes duration.

Film abstracts submitted will be short-listed for presentation by a panel of judges. Selected films will be screened continuously in a specially designated area of the congress.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories:

1.     Community Ophthalmology
2.     Surgical Technique

Note: An overall winner will be chosen for the Best Film from the above two categories.

Topics could include anything that is interesting in ophthalmology.

For example:

·        challenging cases
·        surgical complications and their management
·        new techniques and devices
·        community ophthalmology

Film Submission Procedure
Short abstracts of 5 to 6 lines are to be submitted online at https://app.oxfordabstracts.com/stages/107/submission and should include the title, abstract body and category under which it is to be judged.

Authors of accepted films will be asked to submit the actual film by a date to be advised.

Films of up to 5 minutes may be submitted in widescreen (16:9) or standard (4:3) format. Films over 5 minutes will be truncated to be fair to other presenters. Files can be submitted (in order of preference) as high quality MP4 (HD) or MPEG2 (DVD format), as a DV file or as a DVD, or playable DVD disc image on CD or memory stick. A dropbox will also be available for online transfer. WMV, AVI and other less efficient formats should be avoided if possible.  Be aware that 5 minutes of reasonable to high quality video will typically be 100MB to 500MB in size.

Only participants who register and pay for the congress may take part in the Film Festival.
