RANZCO International Development Workshop – Ophthalmic plastic surgery and teaching methods in low resource settings

ASO Advocacy and Practice Skills Workshop
Date: Saturday 28 October 2017

Cost: Complimentary for ASO members, $50 for non ASO members. Bookings can be made via the registration portal when you register for the congress

Description: As the perfect precursor to this year’s RANZCO Congress in Perth, ASO is gearing up to stage our annual Advocacy and Practice Skills Workshop on the morning of the 28th of October.

Key professional, practice focused updates will be provided to members with speakers from TressCox Lawyers, Cutcher & Neale Accounting and Financial Services and MDA National. This year will continue our focus on Indigenous Health with Professor Angus Turner providing an update on key achievements and lessons in Western Australia.  The workshop also includes the second annual Andrew Stewart Lecture. The lecture, given by a high-profile personality working within the health sector, was created to recognise the contribution Western Australian eye surgeon Dr Andrew Stewart made to ophthalmology in Australia during his years of practice. Dr Stewart was a past president of RANZCO, a longstanding ASO board member, and a passionate patient advocate.

CPR Refresher Course (by Surf Life Saving Western Australia)
Date: Saturday 28 October 2017
Time: 4pm – 6pm
Cost: $75 per person. Bookings must be made via the registration form.
Description: The HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Refresher is a two-hour course and covers all requirements of the HLTAID001 unit of competency. This includes:

·       Casualty assessment and emergency action principles, DRSABCD
·       One and two operator CPR techniques including cardiac compressions on an infant and adult
·       Unpacking and applying a defibrillator
·       Procedure for placing patient in recovery position.

Notes:  Participants must be able to complete 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor to be deemed competent. On successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate and wallet card stating that they have achieved the HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation unit of competency.
No pre-reading is required.
